Good to Know

We hope that you are as excited as we are to join us for Cirque du Nord. Meet old friends, make new ones, and allow yourself to take a break from everyday life.

On this page, we have compiled some practical information to help you prepare for the convention, and hopefully make your attendance as smooth as possible. There are a number of events that will be even better if you prepare and pack for them, so be sure to read through this page thoroughly.

See you at the convention!

Convention Information

Bring a Valid Photo ID and ready your QR Code!

Remember to bring a valid photo ID (Passport, Internationally recognised ID Cards, or a Drivers License). It is required for picking up your badge at the convention check-in desk, and may also be required for check-in at your hotel's reception desk. Passports are the preferred form of ID. Remember to also prepare your check-in QR code from your registration page when registering as this will simplify registration and speed up the process for everyone.

Swedish Krona and Credit Cards

Cash is not required in Sweden as most (if not all) transactions can be made using a credit or debit card. Please note that most hotels, including the Clarion, are cash free, meaning that they only accept payment by card (at the reception, at the bar, at restaurants, etc.).

The convention check-in desk and the con store only accept payment by card, as well as Swish, the local Swedish payment provider. In the Dealers’ Den and nerdMarket, it is up to each individual dealer to decide which currencies and payment methods they accept.

The Charity department of NordicFuzzCon mainly uses card terminals for charity donations, however Swedish cash is still accepted.

Where’s My Convention Ticket?

No “convention ticket” is needed! If you have registered for the convention, you are in our database, and a valid photo ID is all you need for identification. You can view your registration here.

Badge Check Points

As we are located in the centre of Malmö city, non-furries will always be out and about close-by. This increases the requirement on the convention to make sure that all attendees can be themselves and have a good time. Therefore, there will be an entrance badge checkpoint, where everyone is required to show their convention badge (even when fursuiting).

Like in all previous years, attendees are also required to visibly wear their badges at all times during the convention.

Posters

In the past, we have allowed attendees to put up posters almost everywhere. This has made it difficult to tidy up after the convention as it is hard to find all the posters. Further, some posters have been put up using methods which have damaged hotel property.

Therefore, we will only allow posters to be hung up in designated areas, called “poster walls”. Other promotional material such as flyers, business cards etc. are only to be placed on the tables dedicated to this purpose. All such areas will be clearly marked. Please put up only one poster per poster wall (multiple posters will be removed) and make sure there is space left for other posters too. If we find posters not put up by the NFC organisation outside of these areas, these posters will be removed and disposed of. The same goes for flyers and business cards.

Streaming

We will be streaming at times during the convention. These streams will feature certain live events, our mascot cams, as well as the lobby and other public areas. Hotel rooms and other areas where privacy can be expected will of course be exempt from any streaming.

As the main stage can be very crowded during certain events due to the increased number of attendees, you can view the stream in certain areas in the lobby, in your hotel room (if you stay at the Clarion), and on NordicFuzzCon’s website.

Mobile Content

During the convention, you can use your phone to find information, maps, catch fursuiters, unlock achievements, and more.

More information about downloading and using the app will be made available before the convention.

Volunteering During the Convention

During the conventions, we need all the help we can get! If you wish to volunteer your time in exchange for a small reward and to experience our new SOUP Game, then visit ConOps, located one flight of stairs below the lobby. They will be able to assist you. There is also a SOUP meeting on Thursday that you are free to attend to learn, as well as a Recruitment Session on Sunday of the convention if you want to help with the next NFC.

Helpful Tips + 6-2-1 Rule

Your phone is your most important tool to keep track of what is going on and for staying in touch with other people. A power bank helps a lot to make the battery last through the entire day.

Malmö can be cold and windy so don’t forget to bring appropriate outdoor clothes.

We know that a convention is a fun place to be, and it is easy to forget to eat or sleep. However, you are not doing yourself a favour by forgetting this so please try to follow this simple rule which will make your, and everyone else’s, experience so much better: “6-2-1” – at least 6 hours of sleep, 2 good meals, and 1 shower a day.

Lost and Found

If you have lost anything during the convention, please contact ConOps as they have a lost and found department who might just have the item in store for you to pick up. In turn, if you find an item that appears to be lost, please turn the item into ConOps so that it has a chance to find its rightful owner again.

Hotel Information

Alcohol

NordicFuzzCon and its attendees are required to adhere to hotel rules and Swedish laws regarding alcohol.

Checking In

You can check into your hotel room from 15:00 at most hotels, please check on your hotels official website for exact check in time. If you know you will arrive very late, e.g. around midnight or later, it is best to let the hotel know in advance.

Checking into your room earlier may be possible, but this depends on whether the room has been prepared or not, thus it cannot be guaranteed.

Our hotel FAQ can be found here.

Parking

There is a parking garage underneath the Clarion, but the hotel does not own it. The garage is owned by the Malmö municipality and the cost is around 300 SEK per day for parking. There are also other parking garages nearby such as Slagthuset Garage, at 230 SEK per day, Caroligaraget, at 150 SEK per day, and P-hus Bagers plats, at 250 SEK per day.

Here is a good online map to help you plan ahead and research your options. Be aware that not all locations are open 24/7

Breakfast

All accommodation booked through the convention has breakfast included. Please check with the reception desk of your hotel which breakfast times apply. Note that breakfast is only included at the hotel you stay at.

Checking Out

Check-out times vary between hotels. Please check with the reception desk during check-in which check-out times apply. If you know that you might be late it is always best to organise this with the reception ahead of time.

Wi-Fi

All public areas at the conference centre have free wireless internet access. The same applies to most hotel room floors. Keep in mind that there will be a lot of devices, so the network may get busy. Please try to limit yourself to one connected device at a time.

Room Sharing

With the new room system you book a full room rather than a room slot, but you still need to add your roommates. By adding your roommates they will be able to see the dates of booking, check-in at the hotel once they arrive, eat the hotel breakfast, and get a keycard to access the room. Please remember that you have to sleep in your own room, even if you stay at the same hotel. Sleeping in someone else's room is considered ghosting and might result in a warning or ban.

Be aware that there are scammers who might claim to have a room at the convention when they do not. If you are going to room with a stranger, you might want to make sure they actually have booked a room by asking them to add you to their roomshare before you pay.

If you are adding someone to your room-share and they don't pay you, you can remove them from the roomshare on your booking page.

Health and Sickness Prevention

It is currently the flu season and will be for several more months. For those of you who are able, please consider getting the flu vaccine.

We likewise encourage all attendees, who are able, to get fully vaccinated against COVID as it still poses a real risk to public health.

In the meantime, it is important to remember some basic steps to avoid getting sick and to help prevent the spread of illness if you do become sick:

  • Wash your hands regularly. Alcogel works, but soap and water are by far the best.
  • Drink plenty of water, eat well, and try to get at least six hours of sleep a day.
  • Sneeze or cough into the crook of your arm.
  • If you are sick, please avoid public spaces and meetings unless absolutely necessary. Please be considerate of others and also wear a mask.

Insurance

Whenever you travel abroad, it's always recommended to have travel insurance, should an accident happen or you get sick and need to see a doctor. Your home insurance usually covers shorter trips, so make sure you have all those papers in order.

If you are insured or covered by a state's social security system in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland, you can get a European Health Insurance card (EHIC). This will make you eligible for receiving the same health care at the same price as people in the country you are visiting. It means that you won't have to pay full price for a visit, which could be as much as 10 times the price you would pay with the insurance.

The card is FREE, and you can get it from your state's health insurance institution. For more info and links to specific states institutions, visit this European Health Insurance Card information page.

Attendees from the UK can get a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) through the official NHS website to get necessary state healthcare in the European Economic Area (and some other countries) on the same basis as a resident of that country. This may be free or it may require a payment equivalent to that which a local resident would pay.

It is also important to keep in mind this is not an alternative to travel insurance.

You can click any of the hotels on the map to get directions to them from where you are using Google Maps.

How to get from an airport to Malmö central station

Travel instruction from Copenhagen Airport - Kastrup (preferred arrival/departure airport)

Observe that you need a photo ID to be allowed to go from Denmark to Sweden, so have your passport available.

Find your way to the Trains, marked on the map below. Go down to Platform 1 to take a train heading east towards Malmö Central Station. Check the departure boards or ask around if unsure which trains are the right ones.

Map of Copenhagen Airport Arrivals Terminal

Buy some tickets for Öresundståg from Copenhagen H to Malmö C, you can do it via the train company homepage, or from machines at the train station such as the ones in the picture below.

Ticket Machines at the train station

If you are going to Clarion Hotel Malmö Live sit at the back of the train and exit the train station at the back and you will come out very close to the hotel.

Travel instructions from Malmö Airport - Sturup (This is almost always a worse option than Copenhagen Airport - Kastrup, flights are more expensive and it takes longer to get to the hotel)

Buy a ticket for Flygbussarna Airport Coaches going from Malmö Airport to Malmö. Check out their Flygbussarna Airport Coaches website to find out how to get a ticket. Using a card is by far the easiest way.

The bus takes you to the central station, then follow the directions above to get to the hotel.

By car

Use the addresses above to navigate to your hotel. See the FAQ page for information about parking.
