Rules of Conduct

These rules and conditions apply to all attendees of the convention.

Content

NordicFuzzCon likes to present itself as a professional convention of friendly, respectful, and open-minded members of the furry community and their friends. To avoid any misunderstandings about what kind of behaviour is generally acceptable at an event like NordicFuzzCon, all attendees are expected to follow these rules. Please make sure that you read and understand them. If you have any questions about anything in these rules, please contact Security (security@nordicfuzzcon.org) prior to the convention.

General

  • Convention space(s) is defined as any space used for NordicFuzzCon programming and operations plus any areas inside the badge check zones.
  • Hotel(s) is defined as any hotel space rented by the convention. Hotel rooms are the attendees' private spaces.
  • Always follow the directions of convention staff
  • We do not tolerate harassment of any kind.
  • Any action or behaviour that causes significant interference with convention operations, excessive discomfort to other attendees, or adversely affects NordicFuzzCon's relationship with its guests, its venues, its partners, or the public is forbidden.

General Behaviour

  • Please treat others respectfully.
  • You are liable for any damage you may cause to the property of another attendee or to property of the hotels, venues, or convention spaces.
  • Consent is required for any physical contact, including hugging. Only an explicit unambiguous "Yes" is valid consent ("Yes means yes."). A fursuit is not consent. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. If you are asked to leave someone alone, then do so. There is NO discussion.
  • NordicFuzzCon Security may ask any attendee to improve the hygiene of themself or any of their possessions.
  • You are required to ask your roommates for permission before hosting a room party or inviting guests.
  • You may not disturb people in any other hotel rooms. Please keep the noise down during the quiet hours and adhere to the rules posted for your room category (for instance normal, buffer, or quiet rooms).
    • Regular rooms - After 00:00, doors must be closed, and no noise is allowed in the hallway
    • Buffer rooms - After 22:00, no room parties, music, or noise in the hallways.
    • Quiet/STEW rooms - No music, room parties, or noise in the hallways at any time.
  • NordicFuzzCon reserves the right to use camera monitoring of convention spaces (including fursuit lounges) and areas rented by the convention.
  • Personal audio systems (e.g., Bluetooth speakers) must be kept below conversation volume at all times in public areas. If anyone complains about noise levels from your device, you must reduce the volume or turn it off.
  • It is not permitted to bring external food or drink into the convention spaces.

General Hotel Rules

  • The consumption of food or drinks purchased from outside of the convention hotels is not permitted, except in private hotel rooms.
  • Attendees may not enter the service areas of the hotels or restricted convention areas. This includes all backstage areas, service elevators, the rooftops, emergency exits, and all areas marked as "Staff Only" or "STEW Only".
  • Tampering with any fire-protection devices is prohibited and might result in expulsion and/or fines by the hotel. The same goes for disabling smoke detectors, or propping fire doors open.
  • Walking barefoot is not allowed in hotels and convention spaces.
  • Printed items such as posters, flyers, business cards, stickers, signs, QR codes, etc. not from NordicFuzzCon must be confined to clearly marked locations designated by the convention. Anything found outside of these marked locations will be trashed on sight. Door signs are subject to the rules of your hotel.
  • Do not deliberately crack open glow sticks or similar items, i.e., anything containing dyeing, sticky, glitter, or corrosive material.
  • Smoking and vaping (e.g., electronic cigarettes) are not permitted inside any venues or hotel rooms. You are responsible for any fees or fines incurred by breaking this rule including cleaning fees or evacuation fines.
  • Staying overnight in a convention hotel without a valid hotel booking through NordicFuzzCon, or allowing others to do so, is grounds for an expulsion and/or other penalties from the hotel.
  • Lighter than air balloons are never permitted in any hotel or venue.
  • Balloons containing latex are not permitted in public areas except when in an event marked as an allergy risk.
  • You are expected to treat hotel rooms and hotel property reasonably and with care. You will be held personally liable for any damage you cause.
  • Housekeeping may enter your room if the "do not disturb" sign is left for more than three days.

Registration

  • You must be at least 18 years old for the entire time you attend the convention.
  • NordicFuzzCon is a private event. Only registered attendees with a valid, official convention badge may enter convention spaces. Exceptions might be made by NordicFuzzCon.
  • You are required to wear your convention badge visibly at all times, also when fursuiting, so that you can be identified as an attendee of the convention.
  • Assisting someone to attend NordicFuzzCon without their own valid badge or impersonating another attendee by using their convention badge is grounds for expulsion from the convention for all parties involved.
  • You may not impersonate official convention roles, communications, or announcements.
  • Changing or covering up identifying information on your badge may invalidate it.
  • If you have been expelled, your con badge may or may not be returned to you after the convention.
  • The NordicFuzzCon Board may permit an attendee to bring children (age 3 or younger). The attendee will be asked to sign a waiver as the legal guardian for the child/children.

Pets and Animals

  • The only pets allowed at NordicFuzzCon are dogs and they must be approved no later than one (1) month prior to the convention by NordicFuzzCon Security.
  • Not all NordicFuzzCon hotels accept animals. Please get in touch with us at registration@nordicfuzzcon.org during your registration process so that we can do our best to accommodate your wishes.
  • Having a pet stay in your room will incur cleaning fees.
  • Anyone who brings a pet must respond to any questions they receive from NordicFuzzCon Security.
  • Upon arrival, you must present your pet to NordicFuzzCon Security to have it registered on site. If there are any issues regarding your pet, NordicFuzzCon Security may ask you to remove your animal from premises temporarily or permanently at any time.
  • Pets are allowed in most public areas of the convention, but not in event spaces, near food, or in non-designated hotel rooms and hallways. If you disregard this rule, you might have to pay a considerable extra cleaning fee.
  • Service animals are exempted from the pets policy. However, anybody bringing a service animal is still required to contact NordicFuzzCon Security, so that we can properly accommodate their needs.

Fursuiting

Keep in mind that fursuiting in public or at a convention is a social activity that not only involves the suiter themselves, but the audience as well (including photographers, guests and children).

  • Your health matters most. If there is a medical emergency or risk thereof, please remove your fursuit as soon as possible, no matter when or where you are. If needed, contact the Medicurity Hotline.
  • When wearing a full body suit or a "¾ suit" or a "half suit", please keep your head and costume on in public areas and corridors. Headless zones and other areas exempt from this rule will be marked. Audience members of stage events are also exempted. (Link to Wiki: https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Fursuit)
  • The fursuit lounge and headless zones are intended for use by fursuiters. Please respect this and stay out if you are not a fursuiter or a handler.
  • Treat fursuiters carefully, in order not to damage the fursuit or the person inside of it.
  • You are the only person responsible for the safe keeping of your fursuit and your belongings. The fursuit lounge and headless lounge are not watched or guarded spaces.

Clothing and Decency

Please keep in mind that your behaviour reflects on the fandom as a whole. All convention exclusive areas and daytime convention programming are considered to be Safe for General Audiences at all times unless otherwise specified. Some events may be rated either Mature or Adult. Such events may feature mature topics and will be properly marked on our schedule and on site. Events occurring after 21:00 may be Mature. The definitions for Mature and Adult are presented in the NFC Relaxed Dress Code.

  • A "relaxed dress code" may be used for certain events and will be communicated at least two (2) months prior to the convention.
  • When in public areas of the hotels and convention areas, attendees may not wear clothing or accessories which are overly revealing, inappropriate to the atmosphere of the convention (such as pup hoods, army gear or similar), the hotel image, or likely to draw reasonable complaints or offence.
  • Wearing costumes, accessories, or displaying items made out of real fur is not allowed.
  • When in convention and public areas, attendees may not wear clothing or costumes which are visibly "anatomically correct" or indecently revealing the wearer's own private anatomy.
  • Sexual behaviour that goes beyond a mere display of affection is not allowed in public.
  • Display of adult-themed materials is not permitted in public areas of the hotel. This includes (but is not limited to): door signs, flyers, business cards, stickers, posters, digital devices, clothing or other worn items, and drawings on public message boards.
  • Animal style costume accessories on fursuits such as harnesses, or muzzles, are permitted if they remain Safe for General Audiences.
  • Collars that are Safe for General Audiences are always allowed.
  • Metal prong collars, shock collars, and leashes are not permitted.
  • No body paint is allowed except for smear-safe makeup.
  • Police, military or paramilitary style uniforms or otherwise overtly militaristic gear are not permitted in public spaces.
  • NordicFuzzCon Security reserves the right to determine whether any clothing and/or accessories violate these rules.
  • Questions regarding rules for clothing and outfits should be directed to NordicFuzzCon Security at least one (1) month prior to the convention.

Commercial Activity

NordicFuzzCon provides venues for commercial activities, each with their own purpose. The Dealers' Den is intended for the sale of physical goods or artistic services. The Artists' Alley is intended for art commissions.

  • The right to engage in commercial activity in the Dealers' Den and Artists' Alley is controlled by the Dealers' Den department.
  • The only commercial activity permitted outside of the Dealers' Den or Artists' Alley is commercial photography or videography.
  • All commercial transactions are the sole responsibility of the seller and the buyer. It is the responsibility of the seller to comply with applicable fiscal and sales legislation.
  • Under no circumstance shall NordicFuzzCon accept any liability arising from litigation pertaining to those transactions.
  • Every dealer in the Dealers' Den and/or tableholder in the Artists' Alley must be an attendee (i.e., have registered for the full main convention period and paid the full amount prior to the convention).
  • The Dealers' Den Department may restrict or forbid the sale of any items for any reason. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Adult items
    • Irrelevant items - items not related to the furry fandom.
    • Products that are inconsistent with the values of NordicFuzzCon.
    • Products derived from animals.
    • Generative AI art, videos and other visual media.
    • Vendors selling mainly industrial mass-products items.
  • Any special requests should be sent to dealers.den@nordicfuzzcon.org no later than one (1) month prior to the convention, and may be either approved or denied.
  • Engaging in commercial activity at NordicFuzzCon is a privilege and can be withdrawn at any time for any reason.
  • During the After Bark Dealers' Den, adult items are allowed to be sold.

Photography and Video

  • NordicFuzzCon is a private event, and reserves the right to use all photos or videos created in the convention spaces. The Creator of photos or videos at NordicFuzzCon owns the works created. NordicFuzzCon grants you the right to use photos and videos that you have taken at the convention for private and/or non-commercial purposes.
  • Do not photograph or record anyone in situations where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, including interventions by convention medics, or if the person explicitly asks not to be filmed. The same goes for distributing such content.
  • Live-streaming requires a live-stream badge which can be requested no later than one (1) month prior to the convention through press@nordicfuzzcon.org. This permission can be revoked at any time by NordicFuzzCon Security.
  • Publication in media (such as press, television, or other commercial mass media), or any other journalistic work, requires written permission by NordicFuzzCon (press@nordicfuzzcon.org).
  • By attending, you acknowledge that you may appear in the videos or photos taken by our staff. If you have concerns or prefer not to be filmed or photographed, please inform our staff at the event or contact us at data.protection@nordicfuzzcon.org.
  • Restrictions or other rules may apply for certain events, scenarios, and areas. Those will be announced on location.

Alcohol and Drugs

Swedish laws are very strict when it comes to alcohol and drugs. YOU are responsible for knowing the laws around alcohol and drugs before entering Sweden. By attending NordicFuzzCon you agree to comply with the following rules:

  • You are required to adhere to the alcohol policies of the hotel or venue that you are in at all times during the convention.
  • You are expected to drink responsibly. You will be held liable for what you say and do, even if intoxicated. Persons who are intoxicated to the point of impairment may be escorted to their rooms. This may result in additional sanctions.
  • It is not permitted to consume or openly display alcohol purchased outside the convention hotels anywhere on the premises (including in the corridors), except inside private hotel rooms or specifically designated areas.
  • The possession, consumption, or sale of illegal substances (including, but not limited to: THC, LSD, MDMA, amphetamines, etc.) is not allowed.
  • The abuse of any otherwise legal substances (such as nitrous oxide, alkyl nitrites, glue, etc.) as a drug is not allowed.
  • Non-compliance with these rules may result in an expulsion from the convention, a ban from future conventions, and/or involvement of Swedish law enforcement.

Weapons, Look-Alikes, and Dangerous Items

  • Any weapon, weapon look-alike, or other dangerous item is not permitted at the convention unless it has been explicitly approved by NordicFuzzCon Security. These must be registered with NordicFuzzCon Security immediately after you check-in on site.
  • NordicFuzzCon Security may require your weapon/item to be peace-bonded. Tampering with the peace-bonding is not allowed.
  • Any item that is seen in the convention space that violates Swedish weapon laws, including any real weapon, may result in the police being called.
  • Any item, activity or substance that could present a risk to persons or property might be refused from the convention premises by NordicFuzzCon Security or be put under certain conditions or measures to reduce the risk.
  • Water guns, nerf guns, and similar items are prohibited inside the buildings, except at designated locations and times for specific events, pre-approved in writing by NordicFuzzCon Security. Contact your event handler well in advance if you wish to arrange an event involving these items. Care should always be taken to avoid hitting any bystanders and/or damaging anyone's property.
  • Organising mock fights, nerf battles, fire breathing, or any other activities that may adversely affect bystanders or property are not allowed without explicit written permission from NordicFuzzCon Security.
  • Any device or item that requires a licence to operate (e.g. high power laser equipment, drones, etc.) or has motorised moving parts requires written approval no later than one (1) month prior to the convention by NordicFuzzCon Security. This does not apply to personal medical equipment.
  • Flying a drone anywhere above or near convention space can be restricted by Swedish authorities or NordicFuzzCon Security.

  • Any speech or visual representation of a symbol that expresses, encourages, or supports discrimination, violence, or harassment based on race, sexual orientation, gender, age, religion, nationality, or disability is strictly forbidden.
  • Symbols or representations of movements or organisations that support or encourage hateful behaviour are not allowed to be worn or displayed at the convention in any form.
